And why at the age of 27?

As a child maybe you were sure who you wanted to become in your future lives. Then life happened and your professional career path went off differently, more or less according to your ideas about it. But sometimes, when the feeling of uncertainty starts to overwhelm you, you must slow down, go for a walk and consider if you are where you want to be in your life. If you feel that you want something else, the only solution is to think further about what can be improved and start working on it.

One year ago I came to the conclusion that the construction industry is not for me. And yes, I have spent a lot of time studying and developing in this field. You may ask if I don’t feel pity about it and if I don’t regret my decisions, but I deeply believe that it allowed me to get to the place where I am now and to the decision I have made. After 5 years of studies and 3 years of work as a designer I have found out that this industry has many disadvantages such as heavy customer collaboration, large bureaucracy and workers with an ancient approach of working, who defend themselves as much as possible against modern technology. In addition, despite the high legal responsibility, construction engineers are not adequately valued financially.

Hence, I decided that I want to get into the IT business, specifically software developing specialization. Fun fuct: I was also thinking about a motorcycle workshop because motorization is one of my passions (another is a healthy lifestyle), but I think IT is an industry of the future.

I believe that IT is this kind of business, where you can develop yourself in many areas and technologies and it is a perfect place for ambitious people. Moreover, it is developing so dynamically that you cannot get bored of it — new technologies are created all the time and just waiting for the interest of technological geeks. They just make work a challenge. I liked this style of working, because when I have an opportunity to learn during my work, I feel that I am using my time well. What is more, working in IT is not limited to your current location, which is a big plus when you want to change your place to live.

To be more sure if programming is for me, I started with Udemy courses, which I would recommend to everyone. For a small amount of money we can test our qualifications and maybe we will find ourselves in it. It was my story — my next step was to go to programming bootcamp. This is however an expensive way to learn, but it has many advantages. It allows contact with people who are in the business, who can give you many titbits about the programmer’s work, helpful hints or even a learning plan drawn up in advance, which will motivate you to take action. And most importantly, especially if you start from scratch, the bootcamp will help you organize your knowledge and set a goal for your potential.

On the eve of completing the course and creating portfolio applications I have every confidence that I made the right decisions and programming will allow me to achieve professional and life success. In my opinion it means having financial stability and an interesting job that will allow you to find time for your family and pursue your passions because nowadays work-life balance is also one of the most important things in life.

I think that our lives should not be filled with tedious, boring, debilitating or unpromising things and this also applies to work. I advise everyone to think about it and make a decision until it is too late, that is, when we still have the strength to act. I did it and I hope it will be one of the best decisions in my life.

Wish me good luck in finding a job. If this happens, I will try to develop myself as best as I can and write a lot of interesting and helpful articles. I am also wondering whether it is worth supplementing my knowledge by studying at a university or focusing on self-study plus what I will learn at work. What’s your opinion? Write to me in the comment. 😉
